Costs and Considerations
Memory Care provides specialized support and safety - but it’s important to understand the associated costs.
Because of the increased level of care and staff training required, Memory Care is typically more expensive than other senior living options. Costs can vary depending on the community, the level of support needed, and geographic location.
Typical Monthly Costs
-
$5,500 to 8,500/month is the general range, depending on location, apartment size, and amenities.
Common Funding Options
-
Private Pay - Most Independent Living is paid for out-of-pocket through savings, pensions, or retirement income.
Real Estate Assets - Selling or downsizing a home can provide the financial means to afford monthly fees.
-
Veterans Benefits - Qualifying veterans and surviving spouses may receive Aid & Attendance to help offset costs.
-
Long-Term Care Insurance - While it typically does not cover Independent Living directly, it may cover some home care services if arranged separately.

When is it time for Memory Care?
-
Increased confusion or disorientation
-
Repeated questions or conversation
-
Difficulty with personal hygiene, dressing or eating
-
Wandering or getting lost
-
Safety concerns - such as forgetting medications
-
Aggression, agitation or withdrawal
-
Caregiver burnout or stress from round-the-clock supervision
